SSMCP Membership
SSMCP is proud to play a critical role in advancing regional collaboration and strengthening the enduring partnership between Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) and the communities that host, support, and sustain its mission. Together, our members are building a stronger, more resilient South Sound for service members, military families, veterans, and the communities they call home.
SSMCP is proud to be supported by more than 55 member organizations and supporters representing local governments, tribal leadership, military partners, educational institutions, nonprofits, businesses, and individual champions across the South Sound region.
We extend our sincere appreciation to each of our members for your continued partnership, leadership, and commitment to our shared mission. Your time, expertise, and dedication make this work possible.
Together, we are strengthening our region, supporting those who serve, and ensuring the long-term success of our military-community partnership.

Who may join SSMCP?
Anyone with objectives that align with SSMCP may be eligible for membership.
Why was SSMCP formed?
Formed in 2011 by a memorandum of agreement among communities and JBLM advocates who wanted to provide a consolidated regional voice for issues.
How is SSMCP funded?
Membership dues and grants, including support from the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation, fund SSMCP.
Does SSMCP have paid staff?
Yes. Two full-time paid staff members with military service backgrounds are funded by SSMCP.
Is SSMCP a non-profit?
No. Executive Leadership Team member, City of Lakewood, serves as a fiduciary agent. The City also provides SSMCP with advice and legal counsel. This cost savings on organizational costs is not possible if SSMCP were a non-profit. Staff clearly designates when representing SSMCP—not the City of Lakewood.
